January 2009

Dear Mary,

Eileen & Don ZimmermanWelcome to a prosperous New Year!  And yes, it will be prosperous!  We are firm believers in the power of positive thinking and the law of attraction.  If you think it will be prosperous, and believe it in your heart, it will be!  December 2008 was Well Dressed Window's best month last year - due to our unwavering belief in financial healing!

Brrr, It is cold outside!

Dickson Living RoomBut it can be toasty warm inside!  Windows are a major source of heat loss, but they are necessary for light, ventilation, and view.  In a typical family home, 25% to 35% of the heat lost is through the windows.

The addition of insulating window treatments is very cost effective and should be the next step taken after you have added storm windows and caulking and/or weather stripping.

Trap the cold air and prevent it from rushing down and across the floor and nipping at your toes!  With layered treatments that are both lined and flannel interlined, heat lo$$ is reduced and rooms stay cozy and comfortable.  The Hunter Douglas Duette Architella product can also save you up to 50% of the heat lost at your windows.

What to wear if you were a window?

Prestige Great RoomWe are constantly asked what is the latest in window treatment trends.  Panels, panels, and more panels!  Stationary (non traversing) panels that flank the window are what we are doing the most of these days.

And just how wide should they be?  We frequently hear, "I do not want to block any of our view", or "My husband would have a fit if we covered our beautiful wood trim that we spent so much money on."  That is why side panels are the perfect solution.  We can mount them on the wall, wider than the window, so that they are off the glass as much as possible.  The width of the panels will be proportional to the width and height of your windows.

And just how long should they be?  We have three general choices here.  They can be the traditional 1/2" clearance off the floor, they can gently "break" on the floor (think of a man's trouser breaking on his shoe), or they can "puddle" in a pile on the floor.  The current trend is the relaxed look of breaking or grazing on the floor.
